Traditional style shutters, which provide a colonial look and feel, are built with 1 ¼ inch louvers and ¾ inch panel stock. Traditional style louvers typically are wedge shaped with a ridge down the center. Louvers may also be flat.

Individual traditional style shutter panels usually span between 8 and 26 inches. The number of panels used on an individual window depends on the width of the window. As a rule of thumb, we suggest dividing the shutter unit into the same number of panels as the window. If your window is divided into three, for example, we recommend using three shutter panels.

The most popular design type for traditional style shutters is known as double hung. With a double hung design, the top section of the shutter folds separately from the bottom section. This design provides numerous combinations of privacy and light control, making it the most versatile window-covering design available.

Traditional style is also popular for café style treatments that cover only the bottom portion of a window. Cafe style shutters are great for privacy, leaving the top of the window open for light.
